Organised Storage Systems (OSS) launched, supplying and installing racking for the Asda supermarket chain.
Our History
Polypal UK started life in 1978 as Organised Storage Systems Ltd – a distributor of pallet racking based in Thornes Lane, Wakefield.
Now, over 45 years later, we’re part of the globally-acclaimed Whittan Industrial Group. Our retail journey started with us supplying and installing racking for the Asda supermarket chain. Then, as the business developed, so did our requirements. This saw us relocate to support our growing team, moving first to Batley, then Horbury, before relocating to our existing site in Wakefield.
1990
Henry Barrett bought OSS and merged the business with Advanced Storage Systems which soon started supplying B&Q.
1991
The Safelock Racking System launched into the DIY sector under the Barrett Storage Systems brand.
1994
Henry Barrett Group sold Barrett Storage to Wagon PLC which also owned Link51 as part of its Storage Products Division.
1996
Wagon PLC merged Barrett Storage Systems with Polypal and the business was rebranded under the Polypal UK brand.
2002
Whittan Industrial Group acquired Wagon PLC’s Storage Products Division.
2008
Whittan acquired HiStore, adding to its expanding brand portfolio and integrating retail customers Travis Perkins and Wickes into the Polypal business unit.
2015
Polypal UK as part of the Whittan Group is acquired by the Bregal Fund 111 L.P, advised by leading private equity investment group EMK Capital.
2018
We welcome the TP Group as our sole partner for inspection repairs and maintenance for the whole estate 1500 plus branches.
2021
Polypal starts to supply Howdens with pallet racking and bespoke fittings and accessories to their growing estate.
2022
Polypal becomes a supplier to Jewson for repairs and maintenance for their northern and Scottish region of 300 branches.
2023
New Polypal logo revealed, part of our marketing strategy to communicate our passion for retail.
2023
Polypal are appointed by Tesco for project management and installation services.
