What does your job involve?
I develop new products, keep drawings up to date & deal with technical query resolution. I am also involved in product design testing & FEA analysis, carrying out 3D rendered visuals & layouts, as well as site visits & quality checking.
Have you progressed since starting with Whittan. What has been your career path?
I started as an Apprentice CAD Designer when I was 17 years old and worked my way up, whilst also studying on day release at college. I have completed my ONC in Mechanical Engineering, HNC and I am currently studying towards my Mechanical Engineering degree at Sheffield Hallam.
What do you enjoy about your job?
I enjoy the varied tasks I am given, as it changes constantly; from designing a new wheel barrow stand for a builder’s merchants, to producing a 3D rendered layout of a B&Q store. Also the design team at Polypal is a great department to work in, as we work well together and help each other out when need be.
What do you like about the company?
The company sees opportunities to develop people further and I am always grateful of this.
Future career goals within Whittan
To further develop my career as a Design Engineer.
What has been your experience of taking the apprenticeship route with Whittan?
The apprenticeship scheme has been great for me and I couldn’t recommend it enough. The role allowed me to start at 17 years old, which has giving me a massive advantage on people that chose college & university full time with the experience I’ve gained.
